Public Education
The Oswego Fire Protection District offers various opportunities for public education with respect to fire safety and emergency medical services.
If you and your family are interested in taking a tour of one of our fire stations, please stop by during the day so that we may show you around. Sometimes moms and dads have just as much fun sitting in the fire engines as the kids do!!
If you have a group that you would like to take through on a tour, we ask that you contact us to schedule that. You may do that by using the contact form.
We also offer Heartsaver (formerly known as Friends and Family) and Healthcare Provider CPR courses on an alternating basis once a month. For more information on this, follow the CPR link.
Safety talks (especially in October) for groups at the fire station or within the classrooms at school are always popular as well. Again, you may schedule this with us by using the contact form.
In cooperation with the Illinois Board of Education and the Office of the State Fire Marshal, we are always pleased to participate in any number of fire drills with the schools in the area. This may be first-of-the-school-year walkthroughs, or it may be “surprise” drills where timing and efficiency are being measured by the school administration. In either case, please feel free to schedule these with us using the contact form or contacting the Fire Prevention Bureau directly at the new central station – (630) 554-2110.
With the nice weather in the spring and summer comes block parties. Although we do not do birthday parties, if we are available, you may schedule the fire department to stop by your block party for all to tour the fire engine and ambulance. And the little ones just may walk away with a fire helmet and badge! If you’d like to see if we can make an appearance at your block party, please contact us by using the contact form.
We have recently added fire extinguisher training to the list of public education opportunities as well. Depending on the number of participants, it’s about a 1 ½ hour program that includes both classroom as well as hands-on training. This is designed for group learning, such as scout troops, hotel/mercantile employees, home owner's associations, and the like. For more information on this, follow the Fire Extinguisher Training link.
