Notice to Building Owners/Landlords
Building owners/landlords are responsible for maintaining their fire alarm systems, cooking hood suppression systems, fire pumps, and fire sprinkler systems according to the applicable NFPA standards listed below.
Upon request, it is your responsibility to provide this test documentation in a timely manner to the Fire Prevention Bureau. It is your responsibility - not the responsibility of the alarm company or sprinkler company - to make sure that the documentation is received. It can be sent via fax or mail to

Fire Alarm: Per NFPA 72, Chapter 10 Inspection, Testing, and Maintenance
Service personnel shall be qualified and experienced in the inspection, testing, and maintenance of fire alarm systems
Sprinkler System: Per NFPA 25, Standard for the Inspection, testing, and Maintenance of Water-based Fire Protection Systems
Fire Pumps: Per NFPA 25, Standard for the Inspection, testing, and Maintenance of Water-based Fire Protection Systems
Kitchen Hood Suppression Systems: Per IFC 2006, Section 904.11.6 Commercial Cooking Systems / Operations and Maintenance
Hoods, grease-removal devices, fans, ducts and other appurtenances shall be cleaned at intervals necessary to prevent the accumulation of grease. Cleanings shall be recorded, and records shall state the extent, time and date of cleaning. Such records shall be maintained on the premises.
Automatic fire-extinguishing systems shall be serviced at least every 6 months and after every activation. Inspection shall be by qualified service personnel, and a certificate of inspection shall be forwarded to the fire code official upon completion.
Portable Fire Extinguishers: Per NFPA 10, Standard for Portable Fire Extinguishers
A trained and certified person who has undergone the instructions necessary to reliably perform maintenance shall service the fire extinguishers not more than 1 year apart. Each fire extinguisher shall have a tag or label securely attached that indicates the month and year the maintenance was performed, identifies the person and agency performing the work.
(this documentation is not required to be sent to the Fire Prevention Bureau as it shall be physically present on every fire extinguisher)
