KNOX BOX REQUIREMENTS
Ordering
· All Knox boxes must be purchased thru the Oswego Fire Protection District
· 3-4 week delivery time after order placement should be considered
Installation
· Knox box shall be installed approximately 5’ 6” above the ground surface unless alternative instructions provided by Fire Code Official
· Knox box shall be installed at or near main entrance, or entrance/access to the Fire Alarm Control Panel unless alternative instructions provided by Fire Code Official
· At the discretion of the Fire Code Official, multiple Knox box installations may be required based on access requirements and building site plan
In Service
· Prior to receiving an approved Final Safety Check, the Knox box shall be appropriately placed in service
· Keys allowing access to all areas of the structure shall be contained within the Knox box
· Keys allowing access to Fire Alarm Control/Annunciator Panels shall be contained within the Knox box
· Keys for resetting fire alarm system devices shall be contained within the Knox box
· All keys shall be appropriately labeled (example: key tags on metal rings)
· All labels shall be legible and descriptive of their use
Keeping In Service
· Any changes to locks (whether interior or exterior) that require new keys must include an extra copy to be made for the Knox box
· Any changes to locks (whether interior or exterior) require immediate notification to the Oswego Fire Protection District for key re-placement in the Knox box
