Firefighter Minimum Requirements:
- Must be at least nineteen (19) years of age to apply, and under 35 years of age as of application deadline. (Unless exempt by state statute). Note that the minimum age for appointment to the position of firefighter/paramedic is twenty-one (21)
- No Felony or Disqualifying Misdemeanor Convictions
- High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)
- S. Citizenship
- Valid Driver’s License
- Current Illinois or National Registry EMT-P (Paramedic) Certification due at time of start date
- Illinois State Fire Marshal Certified Basic Operations Firefighter or Firefighter II due within one year of start date
- Successful completion of the Candidate Physical Ability Test with Ladder Climb Certification conducted by a licensed agency due at application deadline (valid if dated 9/27/2023 – 9/27/2024). Must also be valid at time of conditional offer.
- Must be of sound mental and physical health and meet all established standards
- Must be able to pass written test, medical examination and drug testing, and extensive background
Orientation & Testing Information:
You will have the option to take the exam in-person or in a virtual setting. You must select which method you would like to take the exam at the time of the application deadline. The in-person exam is scheduled for Saturday, November 2, 2024. The virtual exam will be scheduled during business hours the week of October 28th, 2024. There will be no evening or weekend sessions available to test virtually – it is your responsibility to ensure you have flexibility to test during business hours. All portions of the testing process are mandatory. Failure to attend and successfully complete any portion of the process will result in elimination from employment consideration.
